This autumn, ISFVF sends kind invitations to young filmmakers and cinephiles around the world. We are glad to announce that The Opening Ceremony of 15th Beijing Film Academy’s International Student Film and Video Festival (ISFVF) will be held at 7pm on October 16, 2016, in the cineplex of Beijing Film Academy. Great videos and films are expected to be placed on exhibition this week, from 16th October to 23th October， 2016.
As the top international student film festival in Asia, ISFVF has enjoyed the highest reputation both in China and abroad. ISFVF has enjoyed a 15-year long history and we desire to seek more potential for development. This year, we received 1161 videos and films from 53 nations, marking highest number of submissions to date. All the young filmmakers are filled with passion and love towards filmmaking. With the principle of diversity and equality, 45 qualified experts were invited to complete the selection process. There are 76 videos and films, produced by young people from 31 countries, all of which will be presented during 2016 ISFVF, including 53 feature films, 11 cartoons, 7 documentaries and 5 miscellaneous films. We look forward to holding a cultural exchange oriented film festival and to provide all film lovers with aesthetically pleasing audio-visual experiences.
In order to facilitate and strengthen the interaction between film academies around the world, we have founded a Special Film Event for oversea institutions. This year, we invited two world-class film institutions, The National Film & Television School (NFTS) from the UK and Student Academy Award (SAA) from the US to participate in our Special Film Event. We believe that our collaboration with NFTS and SAA will help ISFVF to achieve higher academic heights and strengthen our international cultural impact.
In addition, ISFVF will organize a ‘Director into the class’ event, which provides great opportunities for all young directors from different nations to meet and communicate with each other. We are proud to continue partnering with Huayi Brothers Media Corporation Ltd. to facilitate ‘Huayi Innovation Special Award’ for outstanding international filmmakers. Moreover, selected films from ISFVF will also be exhibited in various Chinese universities in the next few months.
In the Opening Ceremony, the organizer of ISFVF, also the vice-president of Beijing Film Academy— Professor Sun Lijun declared the festival opening a great success. Amidst warm applauses, he sincerely delivered his gratitude and welcome to all the professors and students of Beijing Film Academy, international film lovers, overseas film experts as well as the Embassy staffs.
There were 7 great international films being exhibited during the Opening Ceremony; the Chinese film, "Plastic Fish" that demonstrated the senior life of an old couple, the New Zealand cartoon, "Accidents, Blunders and Calamities" that explored the relationships between human beings and animals, the Israeli film, "Up And Arise" a social commentary about mistreatment and the corruption that comes with power, a Nepali film, "Rattling Fan" that explores the relationship between a repairman and his daughter, a Canadian Film, "The Babysitter" that documents supernatural events occurring at midnight, the American Film, "Out of the Bag" that records three American artists, and their efforts in environmental awareness through the reutilizing of plastic products, the Polish film, "Tenants" that tells the story of a women, delighted to move to a new home that eventually terrorizes her. These films demonstrated international directors’ innovative abilities and unique perspectives on a wide range of social issues. The post exhibition Q&A allowed for audiences to participate in lively conversation and discussions with all the directors.
In the next week (Sunday, October 16- Sunday October 23, 2016), there will be ever more quality international and Chinese films that will be presented in the Cineplex of Beijing Film Academy.
